[Published under Section 91 of the Act.] Planes, arrangement and construction of.-A frame A B C D pivoted to an aerial machine by an horizontal transverse axis 12 is provided with cords or wires stretched across it, as shown, to which are fixed the front and rear edges of strips of metal or the like which constitute supporting-surfaces. The axis 12 is arranged to coincide with the centre-line of resistance of forward motion of the machine. Stopping way is effected by turning the frame A B C D on the axis 12 to increase the coincidence of the planes. Steering and balancing.-The frame ABC D may be adjusted on the axis 12 for vertical steering. For lateral stability, the frame is provided at its upper and lower ends with one or more planes 21 adjustable upon vertical axes 22. By freely pivoting the planes 21 and arranging the axes 22 nearer the front edges, lateral stability under side winds is effected automatically."
