This saves on gas and balloon costs by letting the explosion of an "attached organ" negate any need for the explosion of the balloon itself. A series of ballonets may replace the balloon in question. This is all described by the inventor as "primitive". Parachutes, in the sense of means controlling falling speed, may be relevant here.
