Patent DE-1892-Steiger

Tandem high-winger. It appears that inventor K. Steiger came from Switzerland, and it seems that no patent was filed on this invention. We keep the record, for now, marking it as "not granted." We don't have a standardized category of "not-filed patent". If it is not a patent but was released somehow we can call it a publication, when more info becomes clear.

This aero inventor could be the one we've recorded as Carl Steiger, also of Switzerland, but the location and technologies are not a close match so for now we'll keep them separate.

Search: Seifert of the Lilienthal museum wrote this about the patent, in German which has been translated here to English and compressed:

The patent design shows a tandem high-decker whose second rear wing is smaller in span and depth. The two surfaces are adjustable during the flight and should obviously be used as an elevator. At the rear was a rudder. It was operated by cables next to the pilot's seat in the fuselage between the wings. The cabin was closed. In front of the plane was the air motor, which drove two counter-rotating lag screws. The chassis under the streamlined hull had compressed air shock absorbers and four wheels. As area 36 m² are given, as total weight with plane 660 kg. Of this amount, 280 kg on the engine, 200 kg on the apparatus. 80 kg is calculated for cooling water and 30 kg for kerosene if a Petrol engine is used. It should last for 4 hours at 14 hp. The patent, intended for an American Patent Office, has not been filed.
