Multifaceted invention; includes a system for stability which could be described as a gyroscope:

In order to preserve the true balance of the machine in the air, I have provided a special balancing device or governor 49 which consists of a series of radical arms or rods 50 mounted on the lower end of a vertical shaft 51 geared at 52 to the propeller shaft. The gear on the propeller shaft is provided with a ratchet clutch 53, as best illustrated in Figure 11, whereby, in case of an accident to the motor causing it [t]o stop, the balancing device will continue to rotate until its momentum is exhausted. (p. 6)

The sources are a little ambiguous about inventor/applicant. The patent images clearly say "George M. Ellis" under inventor. The name George F. Brown (CA) is given on espacenet and CIPO as inventor (with George M. Ellis listed as "Owner"). "Edson Bros." is my best guess of the name above "Attorneys".
