Patent CA-1910-141177

Multifaceted invention; includes a system for stability which could be described as a gyroscope:

In order to preserve the true balance of the machine in the air, I have provided a special balancing device or governor 49 which consists of a series of radical arms or rods 50 mounted on the lower end of a vertical shaft 51 geared at 52 to the propeller shaft. The gear on the propeller shaft is provided with a ratchet clutch 53, as best illustrated in Figure 11, whereby, in case of an accident to the motor causing it [t]o stop, the balancing device will continue to rotate until its momentum is exhausted. (p. 6)

The sources are a little ambiguous about inventor/applicant. The patent images clearly say "George M. Ellis" under inventor. The name George F. Brown (CA) is given on espacenet and CIPO as inventor (with George M. Ellis listed as "Owner"). Brown's name doesn't seem to appear on the patent spec at all; there must be a record somewhere that he was an applicant or assignee, but we don't see it.

The stated inventor in CIPO and espacenet seems simply to be wrong; it should be Ellis not Brown, based on the patent spec itself. Template:Error in sources

The patent diagrams look as if they are part of a U.S. patent, but we haven't found a U.S. partner or parent of this one.

We had reason to think that CA 244/12 was the right category, so let's please keep that info, although it is not clear how to find CPC codes on CIPO any more, and they don't appear on the patent spec or in espacenet.
