Leonhard Sohncke

Leonhard Sohncke was a German mathematics professor and and author on ballooning and meteorology.

He earned his doctorate in 1866, then was a professor in Karlsruhe, then Jena, then Munich.

For the Münchener Verein für Luftschiffahrt (Munich Association for Air Navigation) he organized various ascents and wrote up the results with Sebastian Finsterwalder. Club members gratefully named a balloon the "Sohncke".[1]
