1908 postcard photograph of Le République from below.

Le République was the successor to Le Patrie, designed by Henri Julliot and created in 1907 by Lebaudy Frères company for the French government. It had a cigar shape similar to Le Patrie, but 2000 cubic feet more volume [for a presumed total of 113,250 cubic feet], with total lift of 9000 and net lifting capacity of 2,700 pounds.[1] "When inflated with pure hydrogen it can carry eight men a distance of 500 miles without stops, and the 80-horsepower motor gives it a probably speed of 28 miles an hour. This was about the speed of the Patrie, which had, however, with four men a radius of action of only 280 miles."[2]
