José Ribas Cadaval was a Brazilian aero inventor residing in France, where he filed a patent and wrote a book in Portuguese. According to the cover page of the book Dr. Ribas Cadaval was an award-winning aeronaut, a member of the "Congresso permanente de Elictricidade de Milão" (Milan) (?!), and taught in the aeronautics course of the École supérieure d'aéronautique et de constructions mécaniques.

Ribas Cadaval was originally a doctor who worked in the naval health corps. He traveled to Europe in 1897 where he was exposed to ballooning and began a new career of international activities and inventing. In 1911 he co-founded the Confederação Aérea Brasileira in Rio de Janeiro, and spoke at the inauguration on the national need for aeronautics.[1][2][3]

Also in 1911 (?) Ribas Cadaval set up a testing area including a 23-meter wind tunnel in Teufen, Switzerland.[4]
