John H. Pennington was an inventor from Baltimore.[1]
John Wise says he met Pennington in the course of a balloon launch a Winchester, Virginia, and recommended to him using a balloon instead of a kite in the design of his aerial vessel. Wise was not terribly impressed with Pennington's invention, which he didn't consider original.[2]
In 1853, Pennington wrote to War Secretary Jefferson Davis about his design for hand grenades.[3]
