Jean-Baptiste Roche

Jean-Baptiste Roche was founder and director of the École Supérieure d’Aéronautique et de Construction Mécanique.

He had an illustrious military career, was added to the the Légion d'honneur, and reached the rank of Commandant in 1907, having worked in Algeria, Senegal, and the Congo. He left the military to found the school in 1909, but rejoined during the war to become a director of engineering. In 1916 he was promoted to lieutenant-colonel.[1][2]

He wrote a short profile of the school for De Brunoff, 1919, L'áeronautique pendant la guerre mondiale (pp. 108–109).
