Jean Baptiste Passat was an aero inventor who filed patents from both Britain and France. He focused on ornithopters. Grace's Guide has a 1910 photo of his aircraft which is said to have at least left the ground. He is presumably the pilot in the picture, and there are four others in the foreground. Passat's 1908 French patent was recorded as filed from département Allier, France.[1] His 1909 British patent was recorded as filed from 6 Woodville Road, Thornton Heath, Surrey, and he gave his occupation as Gentleman. His 1922 patent was from Britain too, suggesting he stayed there for the long term. He did not use the hyphen in his name when filing English language patents.
