Italian patent classifications

There were about 25 main categories in the Italian patent classification system in the period of early aero.

This category system seems to have been introduced in full 1902 in, more or less at the same time as the Bollettino della proprietà intellettuale began publication. In 1917 the system was almost exactly the same, with the only apparent classification difference being a split of the fifth category (V. — Generatori di vapore, motori, macchine diverse ed organi delle macchine) into two parts (Va. — Generatori di vapore e motori and Vb. — Macchine diverse ed organi delle macchine. This split occurred in 1913.

Earlier, a very similar system, actually with 26 categories, was used; with aeronautics still grouped with marine navigation in category VIII.
