We do have cases in which this classification is used for patents which are solidly and exclusively aero-pertinent, with the classification covering “Gréement, accessoires, appareils de sauvetage, pisciculture et grande pêche, aérostats”, an example being Patent FR-1903-329489.[1] In fact, at this point in the evolution of French administrative culture, as pertinent to patent classification systems, the use of the word “aérostats” actually opens up to outright airplane patents. This does not reflect a change in the definition of “aérostat”. It reflects evolution in the classification system in reaction to unforeseen technological developments.
