Eugène Godard was an aero inventor, a noted French balloonist, born in Clichy 26 August 1827, deceased in Brussels 1890, the founder of Godard family bloc prolific within the field of aviation, brother of Jules Godard and Louis Godard père, father of Eugène Godard II.
In 1863 Godard built the giant balloon Le Géant for Nadar, which inspired Jules Verne's balloon novel. Then Godard built the even larger balloon L'Aigle.[1]
"Eugène Godard" was a member of the organizing committee of the International Aeronautical Congress of 1889 but given the date this could have been his son.
