Edward Charles Robert Marks (1826–1928) was an engineer, patent agent, and author.

As per the title page of one his several books, he was an Associate Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, a Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Patent Agents.[1]

Marks trained at the Royal Arsenal, Woolwich, then went to Birminggham in 1885. In 1889 he joined his brother, Sir George Croyden Marks, and Sir Dugald Clerk, in the firm Marks & Clerk. He worked on many civil engineering projects and founded the Engineers' Club in Manchester.[2]

In the patents for which Marks is the applicant (and presumably author), he seems to be scrupulous about identifying prior art, and also describing contemporary practice in aeronautics. He describes a shortcoming in this practice then identifies the invention at hand as a solution.
