Deutsche Luftschiffahrts-Aktiengesellschaft
Air transport company flying Zeppelins on lines across Germany, with headquarters in Frankfurt. Started with problems in 1910; started reliable service in 1911. Fleet commandeered by German military at the outbreak of World War I.[1]
Known commonly to English speakers by its acronym DELAG.[1]
DELAG was a subsidiary of Luftschiffbau Zeppelin G. m. b. H., but founded with 3,000,000 marks of new capital from eager investors.[2]
Three (or more?) vessels, the Schwaben (introduced 1911), Viktoria Louise and Hansa (1912), the latter two of which carried 24 passengers and a 12-man crew, and featured kitchens with electric heat serving hot meals.[1]
(The odd entry of rightholder "Deutsche Luftschiffhallen-Bau-Gesellschaft “System Ermus” m. b. H.", in Patent HU-1914-67798, is intriguing. This firm, mentioned in Macholz, 1914, Luftschiffahrt und Hallenbau as Deutsche Luftschiffhallenbau-Gesellschaft m.b.H., may be affiliated with this Deutsche Luftschiffahrts-Aktiengesellschaft. The portable airship hangars produced or maintained by said firm, and the System Ermus itself, may have facilitated in the operation of the above-mentioned Zeppelin network.
