Daimler Motor Company
The British Daimler Motor Company, based in Coventry, was founded by Harry J. Lawson in January 1896 as part of the British Motor Syndicate (itself founded November 1895).[1]
Lawson bought the license to use Daimler engines from Frederick Simms, who had formed the Daimler Motor Syndicate in 1893, originally obtaining the rights from Daimler Motoren-Gesellschaft.[2]
Birmingham Small Arms Company bought Daimler Motor Company in 1910 and controlled it through 1957.[3]
After 1910 the company was known as Daimler Company Limited. The company filed some dozens of engine patents in Great Britain during and after the war, but unlike its foreign counterparts, did not conspicuously file patents related to aviation, or file extensively in foreign offices.
Circa 1913, Algernon E. Berriman became Chief Engineer of the company.[4] (Berriman was very involved in aviation so this hire suggests some interest in the field.)
