The Continental-Caoutchouc- und Gutta-Percha-Compagnie, located in Hannover, made balloons, including registering balloons for a meteorological institute. They manufactured the balloon "Svenske" designed by Eric Unge in Stockholm.[1]

The British company Continental Tyre and Rubber Co. seems to have been a subsidiary of CCGPC or perhaps had approximately the same owners; this is not quite clear from our present sources. The British company's present web site says, "In 1900, Continental delivered the balloon material for sealing the gas cells of the first German airship, the Zeppelin LZ 1."[2] Presumably that refers to this German parent company.
