Simple discussion of balloons, airplanes, and the history thereof. Here, aéroplanes refers to the whole vessel, not just the airfoil, which is called surface or plan sustentateur. The discussion of airplane history is naturally brief and mentions the Wright Brothers and Henry Farman.
Chapter IV of the section on airplane discusses a hybrid form, ballons planeurs, the invention of which Berget credits to Louis Capazza. The ballon planeur is defined as an airplane with a lighter-than-air sustaining plane. (p. 234: "On peut décrire d'un seul mot le système de Capazza, en disant que son appareil est un aéroplane, mas un aéroplane dont le plan sustanteur est, par lui-même, plus léger que l'air.")
