Joseph Pulitzer of the New York World offered a $10,000 prize for the first flight from Albany to New York City.[1] Glenn Curtiss, under the gun financially due to lawsuits from the Wright Brothers successfully made the flight on May 29, 1910.[2]

Curtiss flew 243km at an average speed of 88 km/h.[2]

The flight got lots of press coverage, including from the New York Times which commissioned a special train to follow the flight. Curtiss got a congratulatory letter from president Taft.[2]
