Patent office

The national patent office was La Oficina Nacional de Patentes y Marcas de la República Argentina, created by law 111 of 1866 and an additional law (perhaps specific to trademarks) of 1876.[1] In 1910 Argentina had a patent classification system with 175 categories divided by subsection. Aeronautics and aviation fall mainly under Clase 21, while Clase 106 covers "sistemas, dispociones y medios especiales empleados para el transporte terrestre y maritimo", which is said to include "vias áereas".[2]

A total of 5448 patents had been granted out of 8122 filed in the period 1866–1907.[3] According to the office's statistics, a majority (390) of patents filed in South America in 1904 were filed at the Argentine office, with the next most filings in Brasil (204), Chile (72), and Uruguay (47).[4]
