On 3 Feb. 1909, the Oesterreichischer Flugtechnische Verein (OeFV) or Austrian Flight Technology Association was created by the merger of the Wiener Flugtechnischer Verein (Vienna Flight Technology Association]) and the Verein Flugmaschine (Association Flying Machine) of Vienna. Beginning in 1911, the association was redesignated as the Kaiserlich-Königlich Österreichischer Flugtechnischer Verein (K.k. Oesterreichischer Flugtechnischer Verien) (KkOeFV) or Imperial Austrian Flight Technology Association. Statutes were adopted May and June 1911 and April 1914. From 1909 into-1920, its official journals were Flug- und Motor-Technik (1909-1910), Oesterreichische Flugzeitschrift (apparently from 1911), and Flugzeug und Yacht (apparently from 1920-1926). It was one of the three Austrian club names associated with Flugzeug und Yacht from 1923-1926.

The first president of the association, apparently elected 3 Feb. 1909, was Maj. Gen. Leopold Schleyer. Other officers included Alexander Cassinone, Hermann von Lossi, and Alexander Pallavicini, vice presidents; Leopold Ritter von Stockert, 1st secretary, and Anton Schuster, 2nd secretary; and Georg Eckard and James Worms, librarians. The honorary president was His First Highness Hugo Dietrichstein. In 1910, the association's section for gliders (Sektion fur Gleitflug) had 1,300 members. The Stein Field (Steinfeld) at Vienna-Neustadt was used as the flying place. In 1911, or possibly 1910, it joined the Oesterreichischer Luftschiffer Verband (OeLV) or Austrian Aeronaut Federation. The association had two branch associations, the Flugtechnischer Verein für Mähren (Flight Technology Association for Moravia) and the Flugtechnischer Verein in Steiermark (Flight Technology Association in Steirmark).

Another president, somewhat later, was Johann Pittner (born 17 December 1887 in Vienna and deceased 16 September 1956 in Vienna).[1]
