Émile Diot dit Delamarne was an aero inventor, perhaps more famously a pilot, associated with the location Paris (4, rue de la Fontenelle, Seine). As "Delamarne" he is cited as having piloted a balloon, attempting to fly from the Parisian "Gare d'Orléans" to Wetzlar, Hesse, in the Rhine Province, or "Prussian Province", of what is now Germany. This flight was made on 15 December 1870, in a balloon constructed by the Cie des Aérostiers Militaires ("Company of Military Balloonists"), with "Morel", whether Jean-Baptiste Morel, or Joseph Morel-Petit, and "Billebault", as passengers. This was in the context of the Prussian siege of Paris and the spectacular aeronautic fall and winter of 1870-1871. The balloon was captured, and the plans Général Trochu had intended for Gambetta were taken by the enemy. The correspondence was restored to Gambetta in July 1871.
